180 Days for Former Cowboy Brent

A Dallas County jury today sentenced former Cowboys defensive lineman Josh Brent to 180 days in jail, for the drunk driving wreck that killed his teammate and fellow University of Illinois football player Jerry Brown, 1200 WOAI news reports.

Brent was convicted of intoxication manslaughter in the death of Brown, who was a passenger in Brent's Mercedes after the two went out with other Cowboys players in December of 2012.

Brent's blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit when he wrecked the car, killing Brown, who was his best friend.

Brent could have gotten 20 years in prison, but he also could have gotten probation. Jurors decided against probation because they learned during the punishment phase of the trial that Brent has a previous DWI arrest on his record.

Brent retired from football last summer.
