Deadly Morning: One Killed in Fire, One Killed in Shooting

It was a busy early morning for San Antonio emergency crews, as a fire left two people hurt on the north east side, and a shooting left a victim clinging to life just north of downtown, 1200 WOAI News reports.

The fire was first.  It broke out in the 4800 block of Castle Pine, which is south of Midcrown about 4:30 AM.

When fire crews got there, they found flames shooting out of the back of the house.

Firefighters entered the burning home, and when they got inside they found an adult and a teenager, described as a father and son, suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.

They were rushed to SAAMC in serious condition.  Firefighters managed to knock down the flames.  So far, there is no word on a cause.

UPDATE: The medical examiner says the younger victim, a man in his twenties, died of smoke inhalation.

About a half hour later, gunfire was heard in front of a home in the 500 block of Grayson, which is just northeast of downtown.

When they arrived, they found a victim with gunshot wounds.  The victim gave detectives information about a 23 year old man he said shot him, but he died later at the hospital.

About a half hour after the shooting, the suspect called police and told them he did it in self defense.

The guy told police they could arrest him at Loop 410 and Highway 281, where he was found standing alongside the road.
