The Alamo Bowl will remain the Valero Alamo Bowl for the rest of this decade, at least. 1200 WOAI news reports that San Antonio based Valero Energy Corp has signed on to extend its title sponsorship of the city's signature college bowl game for the next six years.
"Valero is proud to extend its title sponsorship of the Valero Alamo Bowl," Valero Executive Vice President Mike Ciskowski said. "The game is a great event for San Antonio, and Valero has always supported major events that help make our hometown a better place to live and work."
Valero is the largest corporation in San Antonio, and ranks number 9 on the Fortune 500 list of the largest companies in the United States. It is a very generous supporter of local activities, as the title sponsor of the Valero Texas Open.
Valero became the title sponsor of the Alamo Bowl in 2007. Previous title sponsors have been Sylvania, and the now defunct Builders Square home improvement stores.
"As an admired industry and community leader, Valero's commitment will be invaluable as we strive to make the next 20 years of Valero Alamo Bowls even more memorable than our first twenty," said Derrick Fox, the long time President of the Valero Alamo Bowl.
The prognosticators have begun making their predictions for the upcoming game, which will be played on December 30th, with Texas Tech and Arizona State expected to make the journey to San Antonio in late December.
