In a tearful statement, the family of San Antonio Police Officer Robert Deckard says they are beginning the process of taking the 32 year old officer off life support, 1200 WOAI news reports.
"Unfortunately, the doctors have reached a point where they can no longer do much to save Bobby's life," the family said. "Although it pains us to let him go, we must begin to, and are thankful for the fact that we have had these few precious days with him since he was injured."
Deckard was shot in the head by two fleeing armed robbery suspects as they attempted to evade Deckard and other officers in a high speed chase through south Bexar County and into Wilson County on December 8th. The two were arrested and are facing serious felony charges.
The family says Deckard's organs will be donated.
"We take pride in knowing that Bobby was doing what he loved doing, protecting the citizens of San Antonio," the family said. "We also take great comfort in knowing that Bobby will continue to offer others a second chance at life through organ donation when he time does come in the next few days."
