Inmate Mistakenly Released from Bexar Jail

An inmate has been mistakenly released from the Bexar County Jail and remains on the loose, officials tell 1200 WOAI news.

The Sheriff’s Office says Luther York was being held on burglary charges as well as for violation of a protective order.  The burglary charge was dismissed by a judge, who sentenced York to 90 days in jail as part of a deferred adjudication on the protective order charge.

When York was returned to the jail, a jailer misread the file and thought he was to be released.

The victims of York’s crimes have been contacted and a warrant was issued for York’s arrest.

A department spokesman says the Sheriff’s Office takes responsibility for the error and is working to implement technology which will prevent mistaken releases from happening in the future.
