Spurs' Buford Named NBA Executive of the Year

The Spurs' R.C. Buford was named NBA Executive of the Year, joining Gregg Popovich, who two weeks ago was named Coach of the Year, 1200 WOAI news reports.

 

  The Spurs' General Manager was honored for assembling a roster which featured six players averaging double figures in scoring and eight players averaging 20 or more minutes.  He has also assembled a bench which is among the best in the league, which the Trailblazers learned the had way last night.

 

  "I am extremely happy for R.C. Buford to have won this award, which is both absolutely deserved and long overdue," Popovich said.  "His knowledge of the rules, basketball expertise and keen eye for talent have served the Spurs organization well for a very long time.  It has been a personal pleasure to be at his side during this period."

 

  Buford has been general manager for the past 12 seasons, and is credited with leading the NBA's international move.  The Spurs have nine players who were born outside the US, the most in the league.
